Investing on a motorcycle, you take care of it to last for a long time. Unlike a car armored by its body, a motorcycle‘s instruments and parts are exposed. Those little parts that play an important role in keeping it running are exposed. Even the upholstery and some wiring are unprotected. Having your bike out unshielded like that is fine every now and then, but over time without a motorcycle cover – as it sits in the rain, dust, snow, and other environmental particles, the parts of your bike will start to deteriorate.
Always dry your bike completely after it gets exposed to water as this alone protects it further from other elements. Make sure that it is properly lubed because the oil coating helps in repelling water too. Top everything off and spend on a good motorcycle cover most especially if you do not keep your bike in a garage or have it under a bad weather. It must be protected from a lot of sunshine as long term exposure to UV can be damaging primarily to the external features of your motorcycle.
In choosing a good motorcycle cover, try to be specific and find one that is water resistant or water proof but breathable to allow condensation to evaporate from the inside. This is essential especially in tropical, hot, or humid climates. Moisture can lead to water damage. The material should also be sturdy enough to withstand a high volume of water fall and snow too. These days, there are different materials available such as plastic, polyurethane, and PVC. This will become your bike’s most external shell that can also protect it from dust, bird droppings, branches falling, etc.
Other features to consider are heat shields, lockable or elastic hems, portability, puncture-resistance, rust inhibitors, and non-scratching lining such as fleece. Fleece lined motorcycle covers help in keeping your parts scratch free. Even the most lightweight material can scratch your bike’s surface when they rub against each other.
Choose from a variety of motorcycle covers. Make sure to find one that is appropriate for your bike’s size as well as choose amenities that would fit the environment you are in. Consider the weather, external elements, and whether you need to take the cover with you most of the time or not. A short period of time using a motorcycle cover will show a huge difference from when you have not been using one.
